Captain Bernadette Meade suffered a suspected achilles injury in the Seagulls' loss to Camperdown at Leura Oval on Saturday.

She joins centre Ally Feely, who snapped her achilles earlier this season, on the sidelines.

Port Fairy coach Renae Taylor said Meade's injury, which happened in the second quarter, was a bitter blow for both the team and individual.

"She is a podiatrist and she snapped her other achilles a couple of years ago so she knows it's very serious," she said.

"She's going to be ringing the surgeon on Monday morning.

"We are pretty devastated for her and it leaves such a big gap in our team as well."

Taylor said Meade had played goal defence this season.

"As far as experience in the side, it strips what we had left," she said. "It leaves Alicia Moloney down in goal keeper. Apart from that, we got to 16 to 20 year olds."

Taylor said the Seagulls had to navigate their way around the injury.

"We're going to have to go back to the drawing board," she said.

"Our division one girls are going quite well so we've got to be careful that we don't strip their opportunities of going far into finals too. At this point there is no clear option of what we'll do."

Taylor hopes the Seagulls' younger players will "thrive with extra opportunity".

"It's one of those situations where you either sink or swim," she said.
