Senior Constable Brett Thornton said the disgusting behaviour of four men aged between 18 and 50 years old at the food court end of Gateway Plaza that happened just before 12.30pm Saturday was completely unacceptable behaviour.
"Police are appealing for witnesses to the brawl that occurred inside Gateway Plaza at 12.20pm on Saturday," he said.
"Two groups of males, who appear to be known to each other, have had an altercation which resulted in an all-out-brawl in front of between 40 and 50 stunned shoppers and staff.
"The men were in the age range of between 18 and 50 years of age."
Senior Constable Thornton said police understood there were parents during the brawl trying to protect and shield their children from the brawling men.
"Some elderly shoppers also had to take drastic action to avoid being knocked over," he said.
"There would have been a lot of terrified people present and police are looking to speak with those people.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident and can provide information are asked to contact me at the Koroit police station on 5565 8202."
Senior Constable Thornton said the behaviour of the four men involved in the brawl was totally unacceptable.
"Early Saturday afternoon is prime shopping time - family time," he said.
"And there's four men throwing punches at each other with total disregard for the safety of anyone else, including young children and elderly shoppers.
"We want to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened, particularly anyone who knows the people involved."
Witnesses can also contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
