Ninth-placed Creek were up by two points at half-time but the Warriors ran out 17.13 (115) to 12.3 (75) winners.
Timms was thrilled with the effort but realises there is plenty of work to do.
"We're getting fitter and believing in ourselves a bit more and staying in each quarter longer," he said.
It's an important step for Russells Creek because it's a side full of new players.
Timms has been talking about his side gelling since the start of the season and the Old Collegians match suggested it is on the right track.
The Creek mentor said he was impressed with his side's ability to stay in the contest for three quarters but admitted it had a lapse in the third quarter.

Collegians booted seven goals to one in that quarter to leave Creek 37 points down at the final break.
Timms said his team deviated from its game plan and it cost them.
The challenge for Creek is to cut out the lapses, which have hurt it this season.
Another lapse it suffered this year was in its win against East Warrnambool in round three.
The Bombers outscored Creek six goals to two in the final quarter making it a close match on the scoreboard.
The men at Mack Oval have the chance to put a four quarter effort together when they meet Dennington on Saturday.
Former Russells Creek coach Heath Moloney, who is back from Darwin this week, is one who could help them put a solid performance together.
Moloney plays half-forward and can help Lukas Essenwanger out in the ruck.
