Gregory Torney, 32, was already on bail after being charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
He appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday where he made an unsuccessful, self-represented bail application.
The court heard the male occupant of a property in Warrnambool's Schnapper Lane left his premises for about half-an-hour last Wednesday, leaving his 13 and 14-year-old daughters asleep inside and the doors unlocked.
The victim returned about 11am, entering through the front door and closing it behind him.
Police allege the victim then heard the door close a second time, he went to investigate and located Mr Torney seated in his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.
The victim approached the accused who fled the scene.
Mr Torney is accused of stealing $110 cash from the victim's home and car.
Police allege he was later captured on CCTV entering two properties in McDonald Street wearing the same clothes described by the victim in the earlier alleged burglary.
It's alleged alcohol was also stolen from the Aldi supermarket a number of times.
At the time of the alleged offending, Mr Torney had been on bail for about 10 days.
That bail related to the charge of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and allegedly involved Mr Torney handing a stolen semi-automatic 22-carbine Sturm Ruger rifle. into the city's firearms dealership under what he believed was an amnesty.
Police allege the firearm was stolen from a property in North Warrnambool overnight on June 13.
The firearm was locked in a case which was chained to a seat and concealed inside a vehicle parked in the driveway of a private residence.
Mr Torney has not been charged with the theft of the firearm but is a prohibited person under the Firearms Act because he has previously served a jail sentence.
On Monday, Mr Torney denied the offending.
"I don't know who you're looking for but I hope you catch the culprit soon before I do," he said.

Mr Torney said he finally had stable accommodation in Warrnambool after sleeping on the streets for six months in a sleeping bag.
He said he'd only been in the community for about 15 months and that prior to that he'd not been out of jail for more than three months since he was a child.
Magistrate Jelena Popovic said the man failed to show exceptional circumstances why he should be released from custody and refused the application.
Mr Torney was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on October 4.
