A cold front is approaching western Victoria and will cross the state during Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Damaging north to north-westerly winds are tipped, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h.
Winds are expected to ease from the west today during the afternoon as the cold front crosses Victoria.
There was a gust of 100km/h at Mount William, Halls Gap, at 11:21pm last night and there's a marine gale warning in place for the west coast.
At 7am in Warrnambool it was 10.9 degrees, felt like 5.1 and since 9am yesterday we've had 0.4mm of rain.
Today across the south-west will be cloudy.
There's a very high (95 per cent) chance of showers, becoming less likely late this afternoon and evening with hail possible this evening.
There's also the chance of a thunderstorm during this afternoon and evening.
Winds will be north to north-westerly 25 to 40 km/h turning westerly 25 to 30 km/h in the early afternoon then tending northwesterly 20 to 30 km/h in the evening.
Warrnambool is expecting a top temperature of 15, Hamilton 13, Colac 14, Ararat 13, Casterton 14, Mortlake 14, Heywood 14, Portland 14, Port Fairy 15, Terang 13 and Camperdown 12.
On Wednesday a high will develop over South Australia late on Wednesday and extend a ridge across northern Victoria on Thursday, with a cold front forecast to cross Tasmania and Bass Strait on Friday.
The high will then move over Victoria on Saturday.
On Thursday there's an 80 per cent chance of showers and tops around 14 degrees, Friday the chance of showers jumps to 90 per cent with tops around 14 and Saturday a chance of fog, but showers are back to 60 per cent with tops again around 14.
