WDCA chairman Gordon McLeod said club officials were consulted on Wednesday night and Thursday morning before the decision was made.
He said feedback was it was going to be difficult to play on Thursday night and pushing ahead could have impacted on grounds for Saturday's one-day matches.
He said it was important to look after wickets because there was still plenty of cricket to play this week and junior Country Week is coming up in January.
"The match committee decided it was better to postpone and play on January 14," he said.
Merrivale and Woodford were scheduled to battle at Merrivale Recreation Reserve on Friday night under lights.
But their match has also been moved to January 14.
McLeod confirmed it would still be at Merrivale under lights starting at 6.30pm.
The twenty20 final is on January 21.
McLeod added WDCA girls under 17 and under 14 matches were cancelled on Wednesday night due to wet weather.

Meanwhile, McLeod said the WDCA match committee was close to revealing the outcome of its investigation into round eight top-grade one-day matches between Brierly-Christ Church and Russells Creek and West Warrnambool and Wesley-WBC.
The Duckworth-Lewis system - used to calculate the target for the team batting second in a match interrupted by inclement weather - was called into question for those matches.
McLeod said the match committee had met and considered all relevant information and would announce its outcome to clubs first.
