It was about 30 years ago she went to a come-and-try bowls day at St Pius hall in Warrnambool.
She said she was asked to play for Dennington which was calling for numbers at the time.
"When I joined we didn't really have any skippers and I had a few trial runs playing as a second and third and all of a sudden they threw me into skipping and I've been skipping ever since," she said.

The Dolphins went down to Warrnambool Blue 56-51 in Western District Bowls Division midweek pennant on Tuesday.
Shaw, who has bowled with Dennington for 29 years, is one of the club's most decorated players.
One her cherished memories is from her first year with the club.
It was the inaugural running of the mixed fours Tom Clarkson Memorial tournament which is typically held at Dennington Bowls Club in February each year.
"I played with the magnificent Ian Quigley and Graham Taylor and Pat Boyd and that was the first year it was run and we won it," she said.
Shaw, who started with indoor bowls before switching to outdoor, has won a swag of club events.
She explained she had won the club's ladies singles seven times and also the association mixed pairs with fellow Dennington bowler Maureen Drennan.
Shaw said she and Drennan also attended Warrnambool technical school in Timor Street years ago.
The experienced bowler added she had a two-year stint with Warrnambool Bowls Club during her career.
"It (Warrnambool) was a great club but I enjoyed the smaller club so I went back to Dennington," she said.
Shaw loves being part of one of the WDBD's smaller outfits.
"I just think Dennington is a great little club and everybody mixes," she said.
"Because we're such a small club you don't really have a choice and if you have a bit of niggle with someone you just get over it and everything's fine."
Shaw's midweek team is sitting ninth on the ladder.
"We have a bit of a win, we go all right," she said.
"We sort of struggle against the big teams like City - but we give them a run for their money so that's all we can do.
"It's so much different now too because you've got the guys playing as well on a Tuesday and that's great.
"If we didn't have the guys on a Tuesday, we wouldn't be able to fill a team."
She also plays weekend pennant with Dennington Mariners in division two.
In other matches, City Memorial Green defeated Mortlake Blue 84-39, City Gold beat Terang Gold 73-54 and Port Fairy Gold overcame Koroit Orange 67-46.
Ladder-leader Timboon Maroon accounted for finals-contender Warrnambool Gold with a 63-53 victory.
