But Allansford-Panmure is giving new meaning to the term.
The Gators will field five senior teams - one division one side, two division two teams and another two division three outfits - and have an abundance of players pressing for top-grade selection.
Second-year coach Jake Bloom told The Standard the club, which was the result of a merger in July, was completing a "significantly improved" pre-season.
He said a host of Panmure players, who this past season played in the Grassmere Cricket Association, were pressing for division one game time.
The Standard understands Paddy Mahony, Daniel Meade, Tom Wright and Tom Mahony are among the Panmure prospects in the hunt for top-grade action.
Bloom can also call upon bowler Josh Parsons, who has returned to the club, and wicketkeeper Jayden Salmon to bolster his division one ranks.
"I think we had good depth last season but that'll improve again this season," he said.
"It's a bit of an unknown. I'm not sure how we'll stack up against other sides as I know a lot of clubs have had heavy improvement over the off-season.
"I think the top-tier clubs will get better again and become harder to play against. I'd like to feel like we'll be competitive and all teams strive to play finals. I think that's where we'll be at as long as we're competitive."

Bloom revealed a boost in players aged in their mid-20s through to early 30s had reinvigorated the club.
"We have a heap of really good, talented juniors coming through and guys like myself and Boydy (veteran bowler Ben Boyd) who are on the other end of that," he said.
"Having more of those 20 somethings around has really revitalised the group and players."
Allansford-Panmure's division one campaign will kick off with a clash against Nestles at Uebergang Oval.
