AFL Western District announced on Tuesday afternoon that the Deakin University Female Football League had been re-branded as the Western Victoria Female Football League (WVFFL).
AFL Western District operations coordinator Alicia Drew said it was an exciting step forward for the league.
"Where the league is at now we are growing year on year and maturing a bit," she told The Standard.
"Now we have got seniors and juniors and a lot has been happening and we thought the time was right to come up with something new and all encompassing."
Deakin University had supported the league since its inception in 2017 as an eight-side junior competition. In two seasons it has expanded to include a senior competition, which completed its inaugural season in 2019.
Drew thanked Deakin for its support and said the partnership with the university would continue in 2020.
