A shopping trip has ended in a drunk Allansford man losing his licence for 16 months after he was caught driving three times the legal limit.
Patrick Bushell, 57, of Clarke Street, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to drink driving.
The court heard he attended the Woolworths supermarket in Warrnambool's Raglan Parade just after midnight on February 1.
He purchased a number of grocery items before leaving the store.
A member of staff rang the police with concerns about the man's ability to drive.
Bushell drove 13 kilometres form the supermarket to his Allansford home.
Police attended the house and observed him taking shopping bags out of the vehicle.
He made admissions to driving and was transported to Warrnambool police station where he blew 0.163.
Bushell admitted to drinking beer but wouldn't disclose how much.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan said the man was "way over the legal limit".
"Why did you do it?," he asked, in which the man replied: "To get home".
He was fined $750 and his licence was disqualified for 16 months.
