The 35-year-old finished the four rounds at the Club de Golf Chapultepec tied for 62nd - his lowest result since ending the Farmers Insurance Open in January tied for 42nd.
The Australian, who finished the weekend nine-over-par after shooting a round of 72 on the final day, split the placing with India's Shane Lowry and Sweden's Alex Noren.
The Warrnambool export, who last week finished tied for fourth at the Genesis Open, entered the event in impressive form after four consecutive top-10 finishes.
But he couldn't continue it for much of the tournament. The Father-of-three hit 11 birdies across his four rounds but the ground he made was quickly nullified by his 18 bogeys and two double bogeys.
American Dustin Johnson would go on to win the event at 21-under, with Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy five shots back in second.
England's Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat tied for third.
Leishman still sits fourth in the FedExCup ratings and 16th in the World.
