The Warrnambool exports have linked up at Williamstown.

Matt, 19, has spent the pre-season training alongside Tom, 22, at the Seagulls.

“They’ve put me on a rookie list, it’s like an extended list,” the younger sibling said.

“There’s a 45 (player squad) and then I think they’ve got six or so rookie players that have come out of TAC Cup.

“They call it a supplementary thing, so if there’s a long-term injury they can take them off the list and put us on and they can play as a 23rd man throughout the year.

“It is more like a long-term thing where you hope to get on the list in the next couple of years.”

Matt has signed with Northern Football League club Heidelburg and expects to spend much of the 2019 season there.

But he is hopeful of playing alongside Tom at Williamstown if the opportunity arises.

“I am not really expecting to play at all really, just develop as a player,” he said of his goals for the upcoming season.

“It’d be pretty special (to play with Tom), we never really got that chance at Warrnambool.”

The Schnerring siblings, who both played TAC Cup for Greater Western Victoria Rebels, are different players.

“He’s a lot taller and Sandrinham’s got him in the midfield group and they’re trying me in the back line,” Matt said.

“I’ll have to adapt to that. It’s new, I haven’t had much experience there at all, just a few games last year with the Rebels.

“There’s some pretty experienced players there so I am learning a lot.”

Matt is living with his brother in Melbourne until he moves on campus to begin a physiotherapy career. 

Tom will commute to Ballarat for the final semester of a PE teaching degree.
