Talent manager Phil Partington said the four-day camp at Cave Hill Creek in Beaufort was for top-age prospects who played for the Rebels last season.
South Warrnambool pair Liam Herbert and Jay Rantall, who spent much of 2018 focussing on Australian basketball duties, were also invited.
Partington said the camp, which was held last week, would have long-term benefits.
“It was a really successful camp, the boys liked it,” he said.
“We weren’t overly happy with some parts of the program last year and with the way the boys integrated with everyone.
“The boys are from all over Victoria (so it can be hard).
“We did team-first activities to get them a bit closer and on the same page.”
Partington said the players reviewed the 2018 season and set expectations for their upcoming statewide under 18 campaign.
Internal trial games are the next stage in the Rebels’ selection process with a final list expected to be released in early March.
The Rebels have four pre-season training groups – Ballarat, Warrnambool, South West and Wimmera.
Warrnambool (40 players), South West (25) and Wimmera (25) will play internal practice matches on Sunday, February 10.
All four groups will come together for further trials on February 17 before two reductions.
Partington said he was pleased with the Warrnambool-based group’s level of dedication and skill.
The long-time Rebels talent manager praised coach Ben van de Camp for his efforts in preparing the players.
“We expect a good number of Hampden league and Warrnambool boys to make our squad this year,” Partington said.
