IF Bill McCosker isn't at home, his wife Glenda has a fair idea where he is."I know he's at the track," she said. "His body and soul is greyhound racing."McCosker's passion for the sport was recognised on Friday night as he was named the Ken Carr medallist - the highest award for excellence within the Victorian greyhound industry. He was honoured for outstanding voluntary work at the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club. The club stalwart's achievement will always be tinged with sadness though as his mate Leon Lenehan was killed in a car accident travelling home from the ceremony on Saturday. The medal will add to a list of honours which includes being the youngest person to receive life membership at the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club.Club president Phil Mitchem said the medal was thoroughly deserved."It's great recognition for all he's done," he said. "He comes out and does a lot of work, like track preparation and looking after the showgrounds."He mows all that grass around the showgrounds and any time we have a project, he's helping out."McCosker was not the only south-west greyhound identity who fared well on Friday night.Allansford's Jim and Roslyn Thomson received the 2008 GOBIS Breeder of the Year award after they were successful in 14 GOBIS races last year.Thomson said it was the fourth time his breeding business Merryfields had taken home the honour. He and his wife have about 60 dogs at their kennel.Thomson believed the most successful of the bunch last year was Betty Gabel."She had a few wins," he said. "She won a good race at The Meadows late last year which was worth $12,000."It's always good to win the city ones because they're worth a bit more."
