A FORMER Moyne shire young achiever nominee-turned drug dealer will be sentenced on Thursday after being remanded in custody yesterday.Police allege that Corey Ryan, 21, of Hopetoun Road, Mortlake, bought drugs off a Mailors Flat drug ring and distributed them in the Warrnambool district for almost a year.Ryan pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to trafficking and possessing ecstasy and amphetamines. The court heard that between October last year and September this year Ryan had bought drugs, usually ecstasy, and sold it to about 30 buyers. He bought the ecstasy for $25 a pill and sold it for $35 although he never personally used the drugs. In February this year Warrnambool detectives started Operation Option which focused on drug supply to the Warrnambool area.Police allege they uncovered a family-based drug ring and Ryan bought drugs from that ring.On September 17 police swooped on the drug ring members and arrested Ryan who made admissions about his involvement. He told police he just wanted to look impressive driving a BMW and be popular.Police allege Ryan bought drugs worth $250 each week and made $100 profit. Defence counsel Lucy Doherty said Ryan was a young man who had made a mistake.Ms Doherty said Ryan was instrumental in getting the Mortlake skate rink up and going and had previously been a Moyne Shire young achiever nominee.Mr von Einem said he would need to see more material from the defence if Ryan was to avoid an immediate jail term.Ryan was remanded in custody until Thursday.
