The Bombers recorded a strong 13-goal win against Camperdown on Saturday to build further momentum ahead of finals, and also end the Magpies’ chances.
Coach Nadine McNamara said she was impressed by the way her team performed in “horrendous conditions”.
“We have been working on being accountable and on our one-on-one pressure and we were able to execute that well,” she said.
“Camperdown turned the ball over quite a lot, which I think was a lot due to our pressure.
“And it is hard to take too much out of game because it was quite scrappy.
“But I was happy with what we were able to execute with our systems. And the most positive thing was the girls were pretty resilient and and continued to back each other.”
McNamara, who was named as one of Cobden’s best players, said her team was forced to change its game style due to the weather.
“In those conditions you can’t play your normal game and you have to try and get short options and unfortunately it means more passes, so it doesn't flow as easily,” she said.
“I don’t think it will (creep into our next game) because it’s not the way we want to play. So we will just re-prioritize how we want to play next week.”
Camperdown coach Sharon Kenna was no more of a fan of the weather than McNamara. She said it was her side’s inability to convert that ultimately cost it the game, or at least from cutting back the final deficit.
"I felt we did pretty well until maybe the last, where we just couldn't shoot to save ourselves, we maybe shot one goal in the last," she said.
"We probably matched it with them at times and had as much of the ball as they did.
"It didn't matter how many shots we had we just couldn't convert. The ball was blown away and the pressure from Camperdown as well just meant we couldn't score."
Kenna said she was proud of her side’s effort despite it’s finals hopes being ended.
"It is disappointing for my girls that up until two weeks ago we had been in five, but we haven't been able to stay there, and I really feel for the girls," she said.
"I know the loss has now eliminated finals for us, but not once in the game did the girls give up. They just worked their butts off and tried our damnedest in tough conditions against top side, and they showed they are on top for a reason."
