So the year 12 student wasn’t surprised when she took out the 16 years and under speech and drama aggregate recently.
Tiffany also won the open aggregate trophy. “I've won the aggregate for six years in a row for my age group,” she said. “It’s something I work towards every year.”
Warrnambool College teacher Judi Cavanough said it was a significant achievement and Tiffany participated in 14 sections. They ranged from prose readings, poetry readings, prepared and impromptu speeches and solo and group dramatic performances.
Classmate Susan Malikoff also had success, taking out the prestigious Ellis Bickley Memorial Youth Public Speaking Award for her prepared speech and placed second in the Beverly Melican Memorial Poetry Award.
Susan, 17, heads to Melbourne on Tuesday to compete in VCAA Plain English Speaking Award. She is expecting a high standard of competition and will deliver an impromptu speech and a prepared speech on the global garment industry.
“It’s good being able to choose something that you’re passionate about or something that’s interesting and get a point across and try and convince an audience,” Susan said. "I’m focusing on how Australia imports clothing from developing countries like Bangladesh and how the conditions are quite horrible but it’s not easily fixed because of the economic dependence on our money.”
