Showbags and sideshow alley will stay alongside the traditional agricultural events for the October event, but the fireworks will probably disappear.
The decision to scale back from a three-day event to one for the entertainment section follows years of dwindling support from showgoers.
The horse events will still run for four days and the cattle sections will run for two days while the sheep, shearing and fleece events will all be run on one day.
Show president Rachel Alexander said new entertainment such as woodchopping, exotic and farm animals had already been booked and they expected the shorter format would attract more stallholders.
“We want it packed from fence to fence so that anyone that comes in has plenty to see and plenty to do,” she said. “It’s only one day, I think we will mange to fill it. I think it’s always been a sticking point for a few people.”
She said creating a super Saturday would make it easier for stallholders and sideshow operators while easing pressure on volunteers.
“It was a decision that we had to make,” she said. “Friday still had a lot people coming in but it’s been difficult since we haven’t had a public holiday on the Friday for the show.
“It’s always really going to struggle because people are working on Friday and no one’s going to take the day off.”
Ms Alexander said the committee was still considering whether to run an event on the Friday night to open the show, and entry prices were yet to be discussed.
“Just knowing it’s going to be one full day is a lot better than people coming in on a Sunday and being disappointed because the rides are getting shut down and packed up,” she said.
“There were a lot of factors that went into the decision and we will review it after this year’s show whether we will stick to one day or whether we revert back to two days.”
She said people could expect changes to some events with new stewards bringing fresh ideas which includes moving the arts and craft section to the Wannon Rooms.
Ms Alexander said the main reasons for the change were to help ensure they could deliver a full show, ease pressure on volunteers and lower costs for businesses and stallholders.
