V/Line services have been suspended until the fire is brought under control and possible disruptions could continue throughout the week.
Road closures also meant there is no replacement coach services operating between Warrnambool and Colac.
V/Line CEO James Pinder said it was likely disruptions on the line would continue across the week.
“Once we get the all clear from the CFA to access the corridor, we will need to complete an extensive inspection of the entire line,” he said.
“Early indications suggest the fire may have caused track damage near Terang and the electrical system that powers the level crossings may also have been affected.
“When it is safe to do so, our teams will need to go in and assess the track, level crossings and rail infrastructure along the entire corridor and complete any repairs as required.
“We’re advising passengers to expect possible disruptions on the line across the week while we work to return services as quickly and safely as possible.”
Mr Pinder said V/Line would be providing up-to-date information and encouraged passengers to plan ahead and check for any updates before travelling.
“The safety of our staff and passengers is our number one priority and we thank passengers for their patience and understanding during this period,” he said.
“We will be providing regular updates through our website, social media, announcements, as well as text messages and emails to those passengers signed up to Inform.”
Train services on the Geelong line have not been impacted by the fires.
