The team made up of young golfers from south-west clubs clinched the under 18 handicap title, with a total nett score of 882 after two rounds of play on Rosebud’s northern course.

“The boys are pretty stoked with the win,” WDGA team manager Matt McLeod said of the result. “A couple of guys were a bit unhappy with their individual performances but once they realised they had won the handicap and they got the trophy and medallion they were pretty happy.

“From last year coming second in the stroke section, and this year we were in a bit of a rebuilding stage and to come away with the nett win is really promising for next year.

“If we have these guys for next year then they will have some experience and be confident in what they are doing at this level of competition and we can attack the stroke section.”

Logan Lilley and Josh Brown were the top performers in the WDGA team that included Noah McLeod, Will Mackenzie, Saige Perry, Noah Best, Tayne Perry, Daniel Battista and Jai Casamento.

Lilley was the winner of the under 18 nett section with a total of 139 while Brown was three shots behind in second place. Mackenzie was the highest placed WDGA player in the under 18 scratch section finishing fifth. Last year’s men’s winner, Warrnambool’s Caleb Perry finished sixth in the men’s event and first in the Colts (18-23) section, shooting a two-round total of 152.
