That’s the message from the first-year coach, who is plotting Allansford’s return to the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association finals after a three-season absence.
Schuppan’s eight wickets against East Warrnambool rocketed his side 12 points clear of second-placed Russells Creek.
The former Carlton quick played down the feat, instead urging his side to focus on toppling Port Fairy next Saturday as finals loomed closer.
“I always say this – but you can’t control how many wickets you’re getting. I would be getting nine or 10 every week if I could,” Schuppan said.
“It’s literally just about putting the ball in the right area and hoping it happens for you – because I know if you start really chasing a wicket, your bowling suffers.
“The conditions were very bowler-friendly and I have a lot of respect for East, because they weren’t far away from beating us in the first week.”
Schuppan said Allansford wasn’t consistently playing its best cricket and needed improvement leading into finals.
“Good teams find a way to win,” he said.
“We were able to be dominant on the second day against East but it’s not necessarily the cricket we want to be playing. We know our best is good enough – but we need more of it.”
