The Knights needed to defeat Heytesbury and have the results of the Bulls match against Terang go its way to jump into fourth. But the weather had other ideas, with a light drizzle forcing officials to abandon both games, meaning the positions of Cobden and Pomborneit would remain as they were.
Bulls’ captain Mick Townsend said he would have liked to have one more hit out before finals, but now feels the pressure of the final round has been lifted off his side.
“It’s good to know we are in the finals,” he said.
“But we know we have to work hard now if we are to be successful in the finals.
“It is a good feeling around the club and hopefully we can get the job done next week.”
Cobden co-captain Johno Benallack said his side was disappointed that its final game was decided by the weather, but was quick to shift the focus on the his side’s performance in recent weeks.
“We lost our finals chances in the last couple of weeks, losing close games we should of won,” he said. “So we can’t bring it all down to this last game when we probably should have won the last few games and gave ourselves a good chance, instead of leaving it to the last round.”
The two other matches, Camperdown versus Bookaar and Mortlake versus Noorat, were also called off because of the rain.
