AFL Western District revealed clubs could request more points at any time despite it emailing all clubs in October that suggested they would be restricted to 40 as part of an equalisation policy.
The revelation comes a week after it emerged Port Fairy (42) and Hamilton Kangaroos (43) had been granted more than 40.
Terang Mortlake president Jack Kenna said the Bloods, disappointed with the shift away from a level playing field, were unlikely to apply for more points.
He said the decision to award more points to Port Fairy and Hamilton Kangaroos lacked transparency and that AFL Western District had failed to communicate clearly with clubs believing once points were allocated in December, they would not change.
“The communication around points has been basically non-existent,” Kenna said. “I have a lot of respect for the people (at AFL Western District) but we wish there was more communication.” South Warrnambool president Steve Harris agreed.
“There doesn’t seem to be the transparency – we basically found out (about Port Fairy and Hamilton Kangaroos) through the media.”
AFL Western District’s Brad Pole confirmed clubs could request more, but referred further questions to manager Kate Williamson, who did not return calls.
