She could easily have settled for comfortably winning the women's 100-metre hurdles in a Commonwealth Games A-qualifying time, but Pearson was "very disappointed" with her 12.89 seconds at the AIS track on Sunday.

It was good enough to win at the Athletics ACT championships by about 3m from Brianna Beahan (13.15s), with Michelle Jenneke (13.40s) third, running into a slight headwind of 1.2m/s.

After posting a time of 12.73s in Perth two weeks ago, Pearson felt she should've run about 12.5s on the quick AIS track.

But the 31-year-old said it wasn't a setback and she still had plenty of time to get her time down for the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.

That didn't mean she was happy with her race.

"No actually, very disappointed. I raced really well two weeks ago in Perth," Pearson said.

"Unfortunately it's been tailwinds most of the morning and my race it turned right around to -1, so I was very disappointed.

"I was coming here to run fast and unfortunately these things happen, but I'll just keep pushing towards Commonwealth Games so it should be alright.

"Definitely not a setback ... the human body wants to do what the human body wants and Mother Nature's going to do what she wants. It's just a matter of getting the two and making sure they mesh together."

Pearson said she might race at her native Queensland championships next weekend, but was yet to decide, before heading to the nationals on the Gold Coast on February 15-18.

Then she has the world indoor champs in Birmingham, England, in March, and will then use the Sydney Athletics Grand Prix and Queensland Track Classic to fine tune for the Comm Games.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist said she wasn't at her peak yet with that planned to happen at the Commonwealth Games, where she's the favourite to make it three gold in a row in the 100m hurdles.

But she won't use her disappointment as motivation - she already has plenty of that.

"I never use disappointment as motivation. I'm motivated enough for my sport and to train as good as I can, and compete as well as I can," Pearson said.

"Motivation for me is just getting out there and racing. I love it no matter what I do. You have disappointments and you draw on that and work towards the next one."

Pearson's was the only A-qualifier of the day, although there were several B-qualifiers including Beahan when she finished in Pearson's wake.

Both Shemaiah James (16.42m) and Emmanuel Fakiye (16.26m) posted B-qualifiers as they finished one-two in the men's triple jump, as did Alexandra Hulley (66.86m) in winning the women's hammer throw.

Jack Dalton (67.58m) took out the men's hammer with one, while the second-placed Huw Peacock (67.29m) also cleared the mark.

Angus Armstrong won the men's pole vault with his clearance of 5.3m, which was also a B-qualifier.

While Jenneke missed out, she's already posted an A-qualifier for the Games and it was just her second race of the season as she also builds towards the Comm Games.

She was happy with how she was going and loved every opportunity to race against Pearson, where she wants to "keep up with her for as long as she can".

"For her it probably wasn't the fastest time today, but it was still a pretty good run I think," Jenneke said.

"I haven't seen what the times were, but I don't think any of the times were terribly fast, but you get that sometimes."
