The Australian Crocs teammates are awaiting final details for the FIBA Under 16 Asia Cup, will join forces at Big V level and push for a gold medal with Vic Country at the under 18 national championships.
The state team regulars were named on the Vic Country roster, which was announced on Wednesday afternoon, alongside Warrnambool teammate Dominic Occhipinti.
A fourth Seahawk, Riley Nicolson, was listed as an emergency for the April titles.
Rantall and Herbert are expected to represent Australia for the first time before the national championships.
The Asia Cup, which was originally scheduled for late 2017, was postponed in a bid to find a host country, with a February competition now predicted.
Australia must finish top four to qualify for the Argentina-based FIBA Under 17 World Championships in June.
Warrnambool Seahawks mentor Tim Gainey will coach Rantall and Herbert at Big V level this year.
“Warrnambool has a very bright future I think. We have to keep the pathways going and bring the youth league back,” he said.
“It’s a huge jump, even for Jay and Liam with their (junior) representative stuff to play against men.
“Men push them around and find a way to take them out of the game.
“Nathan Sobey, Jackson Greene and Dion Smith have all gone through it and they will be the next ones in line to be able to do it.”
Gainey said they were game-breakers.
“Liam’s position for Vic Country is the floor general,” he said.
“He’s very calm and collected and can take over games when he feels like it. Jay’s approach is ‘I am going to do what I want and you can’t do anything about it’.
“They complement each other. They are always in the gym and I’ve had a few messages saying they want to get shots up, and they listen.”
Gainey said Occhipinti was a prolific shooter.
Warrnambool wheelchair basketballer Jaylen Brown will represent Victoria at the Kevin Coombs Cup.
