The popular Lifeline South West Vic Book Fair will be held in Port Fairy with thousands of books, magazines and CDs on offer.
Fundraising and sustainability manager Bess Slater said the event was the first for Port Fairy and based on a similar three-day event held in Warnambool at Easter.
“We wanted to do something in Port Fairy,” she said. “There’s heaps of people in town and we wanted to make the most it.”
She said there would be a wide range of titles with pallets of books coming from Canberra.
“They’ve been collecting books for 40 years. We’re lucky they’ve got stock we can use and we’ve had some great donations from the community as well which keeps us topped up.”
She is hopeful it is as popular as the Warnambool event which raises about $20,000 annually.
“It would be great if we could raise $20,000. It’s a two day event and it’s our first one so it’s a bit of an unknown. We’ll be happy with whatever we can raise.”
Money raised goes to Lifeline South West Vic’s crisis support and suicide prevention services, training and its 13 11 14 telephone counselling service.
It’s on at the Port Fairy Sea Scouts hall in Bank Street on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
