A FIRE at a Yambuk farm is believed to have been started by a bird's nest hidden in the engine of an excavator.

Port Fairy police Sergeant Mick Wolfe said the fire started soon after 11am on Monday.
He said a man was using the excavator to do work on a farm track and returned home only to find the fire in the engine of the machine, which he put out with a fire extinguisher.
He looked back up the paddock to grass was on fire beside the track, believed to have been caused by remnants of the burning nest falling from the engine.
The fire burn out about 20 hectares of farm land and Country Fire Authority units from across Port Fairy district attended to fight the blaze.
