“He has box eight, so I hope he can stay out of trouble in the first 50 metres and go on from there,” the Warrnambool-based greyhound trainer told The Standard.
Kilty Express, whose home kennel is Warrnmabool, will be up against last year’s winner, Geelong-based Uphill Jill, who is trained by David Geall.
“She is a very good dog,” Drew said. “Kilty is a chance of beating her if he can get a clear run, but in saying that it’s very hard to get a clear run in such an even field. We can only hope for a bit of luck that he will be right in it.”
Drew is confident in Kilty Express’ ability over the the 450-metre distance.
“He has won nine in the city over 500 metres, he has done well here at Warrnambool and has had some good times here,” he said.
Uphill Jill’s trainer David Geall believes there is a strong field, including Kilty Express.
“It’s a very good even field, I am expecting it to be a very fast race,” the Geelong-based trainer said.
“Dogs such as Craig Treherne’s Acclaim, Michael Giles’ Tito Mojito and of course Ray Drew’s Kilty Express, who is a fast and good local dog that will be in the mix.”
Greyhound Victoria’s heat policy will come into affect with the weather expected to reach 38 degrees. If the temperature is at 38 degrees three hours before the race, the meet will be called off.
The Summer Cup Final starts at 8.58pm on Saturday night.
