PORT Fairy’s iconic Moyneyana Festival begins on Sunday. It will be the 70th year of the festival and here are some highlights planned for the Christmas and New Year period.

Sunday, December 24

Christmas Eve celebrations will be held on Fiddler’s Green. This will include a visit from Santa, children’s entertainment, the Colour Angel, the Lions spinning wheel and music from the Port Fairy Citizens Band. Action will begin at 3.30pm.

Wednesday, December 27

Port Fairy musician Arty Hoey will be hosting a Music Fest on Fiddler’s Green from 2-9pm. The Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club will hold the opening night of its annual art show at the Port Fairy Senior Citizens Clubrooms. The show will then run through to January 7.

Thursday, December 28

John Huf & Hot Behinds and friends will be the stars of the show at a Jazz on the Green concert at Fiddler’s Green from 2pm. That evening, Handel’s Messiah will be held from 7.30pm at Saint John’s Anglican Church. An outdoor movie, the children’s classic Toy Story, will be screened on the Fiddler’s Green from 8.30pm.

Friday, December 29

The CBD alive program springs into action with shows from Black Snake Productions running between 9.30am and 3pm.

Saturday, December 30  

Live music continues on Fiddler’s Green while pony rides will also be on offer for those looking for something a bit different. 

Sunday, December 31

The time-honoured New Year’s Eve procession will work its way through the streets of Port Fairy with long-standing Moyneyana Festival chairman Reg Harry and his wife Lesley to be honoured in the lead car. They will be joined by festival founder John Brophy. The night will also include fireworks at midnight. 

Monday, January 1

Action will move to the Moyne River for the Duck Derby and the Wooden Boat Parade.

Tuesday, January 2 

Anthony Mitchell and his classical guitar will be on show during the afternoon on Fiddler’s Green. 

Wednesday, January 3

​Children’s entertainers the Mik Maks will be in full swing on the Fiddler’s Green stage.
