The Pelicans all-rounder downplayed his 7-28 haul against Camperdown on Saturday, instead highlighting his South West Cricket teammates.
Lucas, 24, said tight bowling from his opening partner Michael Winzar and a patient Simon Baker century were crucial in the Pelicans’ 195-run win.
“The best part about our team this year is a lot of guys are stepping up with the bat – Eddie (Lucas) and Rohan Symes are doing really well,” he said.
“With the ball Michael has been fantastic and then the guys who are bowling after us are getting a lot of confidence if we’ve got early wickets on the board.”
Lucas said that was how it panned out against Camperdown.
“Myself and Michael are bowling well together this year which is good,” he said.
“He helped me out by tying up his end.”
Lucas’ hat-trick came off the final two balls of the seventh over and the first ball of the eighth over.
He said Bookaar, which had made 5-258 with the bat, had the game under control at that point with early wickets in hand.
The Pelicans went on to dismiss Camperdown for 63.
“It (getting a hat-trick) is a nice thing to do but it’s something I will reflect on further down the track,” Lucas said.
“It’s one thing a lot of people try to do but don’t fortunately get to do.”
Lucas credited Baker with resurrecting the Pelicans after losing early wickets, labelling him the “mainstay” of their innings.
“He put together partnerships with Jarrod Evans and Will Rowbottom,” he said.
“It was a controlled innings from Simon. It’s good to have him in-form and get time at the crease as well.”
