Three-time premiership paceman Hank Schlaghecke believes the return of all-rounder Kory Howlett – who blasted 71 in his first innings of the season on Saturday – will turn the tide in Woodford’s favour.
Howlett missed the opening months of the campaign through injury.
Schlaghecke also said the return of Tyler Fowler, a livewire quick who snared 24 wickets in Woodford’s 2016-17 premiership season, eased pressure.
“Having Kory back just adds stability to our top order, which is important. We don’t have to rely on one person to get the job done,” Schlaghecke said.
“If we’re to lose a few early wickets, we can still back ourselves in to get a good score.
“With the bowling as well, if things aren’t working for myself or Connor (Richardson) we know Tyler can do damage. He’s a good option to have.”
The North Warrnambool Eagles footballer expected an extended period of two-day cricket to benefit his side.
He revealed a fourth-successive premiership was on the Eels’ radar.
“I personally prefer the two-day stuff,” Schlaghecke said.
“We’ve done well in the short forms in the last few years but we’re really focused on the two-day games.
“We’re still trying our hardest to get into finals and to hopefully even go that little bit further.”
