Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said he had fielded inquiries from “five or six” people in the past few days.
"We're in the process of going through those inquiries. There were a number of specific items included in the jewellery recovered and the owners were quickly able to identify some of those pieces," he said.
"It's been a very pleasing result," he said.
Monday: Portland police are seeking the owners of a large amount of jewellery suspected of being stolen.
Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland crime investigation unit, said the jewellery was recovered during a raid at a Oswald Street address mid last week.
Portland drug user Benjamin Cooke, 34, was arrested, charged with 12 offences including trafficking ice and remanded in custody until December 5.
During a search of the Oswald Street home officers seized a range of drugs and illicit substances and found a large amount of jewellery, some of which was hidden in the top of a piano.
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said the jewellery included 11 watches, necklaces and a number of distinctive neck chains.
“Anyone missing jewellery is requested to contact the Portland police station. Nothing would please us more than reuniting these unique pieces of jewellery with their owners. We expect that the rightful owners will be able to accurately describe their missing pieces,” he said.
