EARLIER: A B-double truck that took a wrong turn ripped off the large awning of a shop in the centre of Hamilton’s central business district early on Saturday morning.
Sergeant Pamela Nix of Hamilton police said the awning of Cheap as Chips at the corner of Gray and Brown street was left lying on the footpath and the B-double’s trailer significantly damaged after the accident.
Sergeant Nix said the building would be inspected later to determine whether the accident had compromised its safety.
She said no one was injured in the accident.
The accident happened between 3.30am-4am on Saturday morning when the truck was heading south-east along Brown Street and turned left into Gray Street, Sergeant Nix said.
The truck driver had been interviewed by police and released, she said.
