The Warrnambool teenager is showcasing his talents in his first public exhibition this month.
Entitled Currency, Wishart’s musical score accompanies a four-and-a-half minute screendance at the Warrnambool Art Gallery.
Recorded using the score from each of the six instruments he plays, Wishart, 14, layered sounds to create a unique soundtrack.
“I wrote the music while watching the dancing,” he said. “So the piece was created for the film.”
The result is what Wishart describes as “layered, fluid, uplifting and nostalgic”.
“I was trying to create a sense of endlessness, like a pile of dominoes, cyclic,” he said.
The exhibition is the first time the musician has showcased his talents in a pre-recorded setting.
“This is the first time I’ve heard my music live,” he said. “I was proud of how it turned out and I’m looking forward to mum and I working on other projects in the future.”
Wishart plays the acoustic and electric guitar, violin, trombone, drums and ukulele. He also dabbles in keyboard when he needs it in a musical score.
“I like a lot of different styles, genres and people when it comes to music,” he said. “I never stick to just one thing at a time.
“I want to be myself to live my vision not someone elses.”
