CO2CRC Limited’s research facility in Brumby’s Lane, Nirranda South, will be open between 10.30am and 3pm showcasing carbon-capture technology allowing more environmentally-friendly extraction of natural gas.
The family-friendly event will also include guided tours of the site, an inflatable slide, barista-made coffee and a barbecue lunch.
The facilities feature carbon capture projects that trap and store carbon dioxide more than 1.5 kilometres underground in rock formations to stop greenhouse gas entering the atmosphere.
It already has more then 80,000 tons of CO2 stored with a $47 million storage project to be discussed at Saturday’s event.
Visitors must wear long sleeves, pants and covered shoes to enter the site.
