THE cost of parking was on the rise with Warrnambool City Council announcing it was increasing its fees. The increase meant revenue raised from parking by council jumped by $20,000 from the previous year.

A GAS leak caused the closure of Merrivale Drive. The accident happened when an SEC crew digging a hole for a power pole struck the gas pipe with a ground auger.
ELECTRICITY supply to over 10,000 customers in Warrnambool was cut-off when a large bird shorted a lighting arrestor and two sets of 22-volt line insulators at the SEC’s main sub-station in Jamieson Street. SEC staff said the damage bill would run into thousands of dollars. It was believed the bird was a crow.

The exhibition was entitled Uncovered and featured weaving work by South West TAFE students.
Forty-three items from 10 students were on display.
They included woven fabrics, rugs, tapestry and machine-knitted items.
Most of the work that formed the exhibition was done by final year students of what was a two-year course.
According to Carol Stingel, it was the biggest display held by South West TAFE students based at the Warrnambool campus.
Sport
CARMEL Pronk (pictured) was one of many runners preparing for the 1985 Surf to Surf Fun Run. At the event launch, organisers said they were hoping for 800 participants to assemble at the starting line in January.
WARRNAMBOOL Golf Club hosted the Victorian PGA tournament with Sydney player Wayne Riley winning the event Ian Baker-Finch, who went on to become a British Open winner, runner-up.
PROMISING cricketers were provided guidance with the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association holding a number of training clinics, led by prominent former players. Among the youngsters taking take was future first-class cricketer Michael O’Keefe.
ENTERTAINMENT
THE big bands just kept on coming to Warrnambool’s Lady Bay Hotel. This time it was leading Australian pop act Kids in the Kitchen. Comedian Col Elliott was at the Performing Acts Centre. Number one on the local charts was I Just Called To Say I Love You by Stevie Wonder.
