Hughes joined The Footy Show for the 2015 season and was a regular panel member until the end of the 2017 season.

Channel 10 confirmed Hughes will host the show Hughesy We Have A Problem in 2018, which the radio host wrote on Instagram would "involve my comedy buddies".

Hughes was previously a long time regular on Network Ten, with starring roles on Rove Live, The Project and the now defunct AFL program Before The Game.

Hughes' departure is the latest change to The Footy Show's lineup, which has seemingly been in flux for most of 2017.

Amid poor ratings and increasing criticism for being out of touch, The Footy Show underwent an overhaul mid-season in August 2017.

New host Craig Hutchison was axed from the program - after only taking on the role at the start of the season - replaced by inaugural host Eddie McGuire.

However the ratings for the show continued to be patchy, with Channel Seven's light-hearted look at AFL, The Front Bar, regularly matching and on occasions beating it's established Channel Nine rival.

Hughes often came in for strong criticism on social media for his performances on The Footy Show. He joined long time panel member Sam Newman and the sacked Hutchison in receiving backlash for their performances.

Newman, seen as the star of the show, was heavily criticised for a swag of controversial comments, including support for US president Donald Trump and disparaging remarks about transgender celebrity Caitlyn Jenner.

In a media release Network Ten said Hughesy We Have a Problem will focus on helping "the people of Australia get over life's infuriating problems".

"From how to handle infidelity to solving who gets to hold the television remote, there is no problem too big, small, funny or difficult for Hughesy and the team to tackle.

"Each episode, Hughsey is joined by four of Australia's funniest comedians who offer searingly honest and hilarious insights as they help untangle the messiness of modern life."

Hughes will also have a new radio home in 2018, with he and on air partner Kate Langbroek defecting from KIIS FM to the Hit Network.
