An information night about the new Cellnovo patch pump system will be hosted by Warrnambool diabetes educator Ann Morris on November 8 at the Hotel Warrnambool function room from 7pm.
Mrs Morris said the Cellnovo patch pump is about the size of a matchbox, making it much smaller than traditional pumps.
She said its compact size was an important innovation and would make it more user-friendly for many people.
“I would encourage anyone with type 1 diabetes who may not have wanted to go down the traditional pump therapy path for a variety of reasons to consider this new and innovative device,” Mrs Morris said.
“We haven’t seen anything like a patch pump on the Australian market.”
She said as well as being smaller, the Cellnovo has less connecting lines than traditional pumps.
“Most traditional pumps have a line 40-80cm long that can get tangled,” she said.
“This connecting line is only about 1-1.5cm long.
“It sits on the arm or abdomen or wherever you want it.
“The size of the device makes it a very convenient system to use.”
The kit includes an insulin patch pump, touchscreen handset and online data platform and is supported under the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).
Mrs Morris said the new pump was another significant step forward in making it easier to live with diabetes.
People wishing to attend the information night should RSVP to Mr Crook on 0421 445786 or Mrs Morris 0487 003384.
