Jukebox, the winner of three of his four starts, finished second behind Catchy in the Danehill Stakes at Flemington last month.
Purcell said Jukebox had freshened up well after his defeat to Catchy for Wednesday’s group 3 race.
“Jukebox is the one to beat,” he said. “He trialled up really well at Cranbourne last week.
“He’s a lovely type of colt. We’ve just taken him along slowly since his Cranbourne trial. He’s in top condition for the Blue Sapphire.”
Jukebox is $3.80 favourite with bookmakers in the early betting markets for the 1200-metre race.
Meanwhile, Japanese stayer Admire Deus is fighting for his life after suffering a serious suspensory ligament injury in trackwork at Warrnambool on Tuesday morning.
Admire Deus, who was transferred to Darren Weir’s Warrnambool satellite stables after leaving the Werribee quarantine station on Saturday, was set to run in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday and the Melbourne Cup on November 7.
Weir’s Warrnambool foreman Jarrod McLean said the seven-year-old stallion injured his leg in a track gallop and was transferred to the Ballarat Veterinary Clinic for further assessment.
