READY: Hawkesdale captain Kurt Buchanan is eager for 2017-18.

HAWKESDALE captain Kurt Buchanan says his side faces a “bit of a battle” this season to repeat last summer’s grand final appearance.

The Cats, who were runners-up to Killarney in 2016-17, still have their 11 players from the decider available this summer, but getting them all on the park at the same time is going to be a struggle.

“It’ll be pretty similar – we haven’t lost anyone … (but) we might be playing a few games with nine or 10 guys this year,” Buchanan said. “It’s just a matter of if we can win enough games for finals.”

Buchanan was confident that, when his team can get its full 11 on the park, they were still capable of beating anyone.

The Cats host Wangoom in their season-opening two-day match, starting on Saturday.

“I think they’ve picked up pretty well,” Buchanan said. “We’ve got a few out this week – we’ll be a bit undermanned. We might be up against it.”
