Earlier: A LEARNER driver wanted on warrants has been arrested after a chase through Hamilton streets mid afternoon on Thursday.
A police spokeswoman said the 24-year-old man was arrested at a Gray Street unit after being seen by police officers driving without an experienced driver coming out of the Coles car park.
He was charged with evading police and numerous high-end driving offences, including driving in a dangerous manner and careless driving, and remanded in custody by a bail justice overnight.
The man will appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Friday for a bail/remand hearing.
Police officers saw the man driving from the Coles car park at 2.45pm and knew he was a learner driver, noting he did not have an experienced driver in his black Toyota Echo hatchback.
"It started in the Coles car park as he was coming out onto Brown Street," the police woman said.
"The incident ended when he crashed car into driveway at Clarendon Street and he was arrested at a unit in nearby Gray Street about 3.15pm."
The Echo received significant front-end damage in the collision.
"He's flown around the Safeway car park and we would like to take this opportunity to thank memebrs of the public for their assistance in helping us locate this offender," the police woman said.
"A couple of drivers had to take evasive action to avoid being in collisions with him," she said.
