When the father-of-three leads his flock onto the ground on Saturday it will be his final game as the Seagull’s coach.
The man his playing group refer to as “Evo” will then step aside to focus on his young family, fast horses and Sunday sleep-ins.
What do you most love about Port Fairy? The playing group are such a great bunch of blokes who are desperate to succeed and are great company off the field.
Describe Port Fairy in five words: Raw, determined, growing, mates, community.
Red wine or white? I’m not a wine drinker unless I’ve had too many beers, then it would be a red.
What do you do to immerse yourself in the community? My wife Sare is from Port Fairy, so we spend a lot of time over there with her family. The footy club is also very good at being involved in community events, like Anzac Day and the Good Friday Appeal. And I enjoy all of the (Port Fairy) pubs.
What is your favourite book of all time? Stan Alves’ biography (Sacked Coach).
What is your favourite holiday destination? As a family we love Lorne for a short trip away, generally camping. But we love the Gold Coast and most recently Port Douglas, which is sensational.
Who do you admire and why? My father has been a great role model for myself and my brothers and sisters. And Makybe Diva.
If you had a million dollars what would you do with it? Travel and buy a race horse.
What career did you want to pursue when you were a teenager? A PE (Physical Education) Teacher but I was no good at school, so I realized early on that wouldn’t happen.
What would your ideal Sunday involve? A bit of a sleep-in if possible then take the kids to the beach for the day, followed by a barbecue with friends.
What is something people might not know about you? I was a drummer in a marching band at school.
If you could choose to go back 100 years or forward 100 years what would you do and why? I would go back, just for a short time, and live without technology.
What recipe are you renowned for cooking for family or friends? Shepherd’s Pie.
When and where are you your happiest? Having dinner and drinks with family and friends
What is the best piece of advice you've been given? Losing is easy, winning is hard work.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years? Hopefully winding down at work and enjoying more travel time.
