Open water swimmer Jarrod Poort, who competed in Rio, was one of three Australians charged with missing a trio of doping tests in a 12-month period. Athletes must nominate times and places where they are available for testing via an app called Whereabouts.

Thomas Fraser-Holmes has already been banned for 12 months and continues to train on the Gold Coast in private pools and without any help or guidance from Swimming Australia.

Now Poort, who swam the 1500 metres in London and the 10-kilometre open water in Brazil, joins him on dry land after Swimming Australia accepted an ASADA recommendation for a year-long ban beginning from September 5.

Poort said he had made a mistake by not correctly reporting his whereabouts and was embarrassed to have been painted as an athlete breaching anti-doping codes.

"At the end of the day people make mistakes and that's what I did," Poort said. "It was remiss of me to neglect a management system that must be shown the full respect it deserves and it is a very embarrassing situation to now be in.

"Dealing with, and getting my head around, the whole situation that has been ongoing since February has been a very tough period of time for myself. At times, I wasn't myself; however I've had some great friends and family around to help support and navigate me through it all.

"Now, facing one year ineligibility for this, from the sport and a way of life I've dedicated so much to over the past years, it has been a very tough pill to swallow. However, I've chosen to accept and respect the situation."

Swimming Australia chief executive Mark Anderson said the organisation remained dedicated to clean sport and while stressing Poort had not been banned for providing a positive test, urged its athletes to be more responsible for their behaviour.

"The Australian Dolphins swim team has worked hard to develop a culture of professionalism and respect within the team. Part of that professionalism is ensuring each athlete is accountable and responsible for accurately providing their locations so testers can access them when required and it is extremely disappointing that this has not occurred as it should have," Anderson said.

"Jarrod has taken responsibility for his filing errors and we continue to work with and support Jarrod as best we can to support him through this process. Whilst clearly this is a very disappointing situation for Jarrod and swimming, we need to reiterate that this is not a positive result and his ownership and acceptance of the situation is admirable."

Now Groves remains the last athlete to face the music with FINA. A date has yet to be set for her hearing and she remains in limbo as she continues to train under coach Michael Bohl on the Gold Coast.

Her lawyer, Tim Fuller, remains confident she can beat the allegations, with the main plank of their argument that she was in the right place at the right time for her third strike.

They will argue that testers failed to find her at her US university dorm after waiting in the front lobby, rather than coming to her room.

Under the terms of the ban, swimmers are not able to compete in any SA-sanctioned events, nor the events of other organisations that would be considered to be at a similar level, nor other sports.

They also lose all funding from SA or the Australian Institute of Sport and aren't able to be involved in any sport, even as a volunteer or administrator.
