Nominee Jayson Killick founded the Portland stroke support group following a stroke in March 2010. Since then, Mr Killick has worked as a Stroke Foundation StrokeSafe Ambassador and a FightStroke Advocate. He educates the community and fights for funding and health care to improve the lives of stroke victims, those who have died and their carers.
Warrnambool East Primary School assistant principal Robyn Ledin has been nominated for her role in developing the school’s innovative, and nurturing reputation. Renowned for its inclusiveness and its passion to educate the whole child, Mrs Ledin promotes the understanding that the education given to young people is the greatest gift of all.
Optometrist Jayson Ward has been recognised for establishing eye clinics in indigenous communities, medical clinics and youth and family services, and providing free eye screening in schools. The Warrnambool resident hosts student placements and sits on governance boards and community committees.
Warrnambool’s Maree Crabbe is nominated for her work as the Reality & Risk: Pornography, young people and sexuality, an Australian violence prevention project co-ordinator and co-founder. She is leading international efforts to address the impact of increasingly pervasive and aggressive pornography on young people.
As a driver of 12 Apostles Food Artisans Trail, Timboon Fine Ice Cream has helped develop and grow Timboon as a tourist destination. They designed and built one of the first food truck ice-cream vans and have developed a ‘Sundae School’, adding an entertaining and educating experience about ice-cream and the local dairy industry.
Winners will be announced at a gala dinner at Flemington on October 13.
