Shane Worth, 50, of Rutledge Street, appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court for a contest mention hearing this week.
In a sentencing indication, magistrate John Lesser said a jail term had to be imposed.
He proposed a 12-month jail sentence with a minimum four months to serve before being eligible for parole.
Mr Worth has already served more than a month in custody which would be counted as time served.
Mr Worth indicated he would plead guilty to some charges but not trafficking drugs or possessing the proceeds of crime.
Police executed a search warrant at Mr Worth's home at 4pm on February 10 and found 50 grams of cannabis, a tazer and a double-edged bladed weapon.
There was also $2850 in cash in a tin with the cannabis and $740 in his wallet.
On his mobile telephone was an image of a text message relating to the sale of 7.5 grams of ice and also evidence of another transaction.
The man who bought the ice was unhappy with the quality of the drugs and made threats because he wanted his money back.
Late at night on July 22 Warrnambool residents contacted police about two men sitting in a ute.
When officers arrived they found a small zip lock bag near Mr Worth's feet.
He was arrested and taken back to the Warrnambool police station where a black leather pouch was found in his underwear.
In the pouch was 2.6 grams of ice, a small amount of speed, one ecstasy tablet and four MDMA capsules.
Mr Worth has also breached a corrections order by failing to comply.
Solicitor Xavier Farrelly said his instructions was that the message on the phone was received previously and the subject of a police charge.
