Written Era sprung to prominence last time in work winning consecutive races at Ballarat and Warrnambool before two unlucky runs at Caulfield at the end of her campaign.
“She just had no luck in two runs at Caulfield in February,” Purcell said.
“She could not get a crack at them in the home straight on either occasion.
We thought of running her at the Warrnambool May Carnival but decided to give her a good break and look at some nice black type races in the spring for her.
I rate her highly. She’s a tough consistent mare who puts in 100 % in her races.”
The Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase winning trainer considered giving Written Era a track gallop at Mortlake last Wednesday but took up the option to run the five-year-old mare at Caulfield.
“Originally she was going to Mortlake for a track gallop,” Purcell said.
“I changed my mind and decided to give her the run at Caulfield. She’s probably one gallop short but she’s a classy mare. The wide barrier is not ideal.
Jockey Damien Lane will be instructed to let her find her feet before aowkng her to run into the race.”
Crossley trainer Mitch Freedman saddles up Poetic Ray and Honey Magic on the nine race program while Warrnambool trainer Denis Beriman accepted with Iron Machine and Bullywolfe.
Ciaron Maher and Darren Weir’s Warrnambool satellite stable have numerous runners on the card.
