Warrnambool trainer Bill Wilde, who was president of the SWOTRA more than 18 years ago, has been voted back into the role and will tackle the hot topic of training horses on local beaches.
“The beach debate is high on my agenda,” Wilde said.
“Training horses and racing are a big part of the local economy.
“The association knows it must have a strong voice on this matter.
“We’re a key stakeholder and we are going to stand up and put our views forward. We must make a stance for the future of local trainers.
“We’ll also be having discussions with the Warrnambool Racing Club about training facilities at the racecourse.”
Wilde is also a committee member on the Australian Trainers Association in Victoria and will be relying on that experience to benefit the SWOTRA.
Tammy Good is the new secretary of the association while Geoff Withers has taken over as treasurer.
