Moyne Shire councillors have approved the masterplan which covers possible actions from 2017-2020.
Mortlake-based Moyne Shire councillor Jill Parker said the masterplan is an important document.
“It is a good roadmap, it consolidates what people have been discussing about the future of Tea Tree Lake,” Cr Parker said.
“The community and council staff have had a lot of input and it has been well considered.
“We can see where we are at in 2020, it will give us a good chance to review.”
Some actions in the masterplan will be acted on quickly, having been included in the 2017-18 Moyne Shire budget.
These include removal of weeds on the edge of the lake, replacing dead or damaged trees, improving directional signage and the continuation of the cumbungi removal regime.
Projects on the future wishlist include the installation of an exercise circuit around the lake, putting in a playground, raising the water level in the lake and the revegetation of the islands.
Cr Parker said Tea Tree Lake is a well-used public asset.
“The area is being very well maintained at the moment and it is very well used,” Cr Parker said.
“A lot of people go there to get their daily exercise, to go for a ride or a walk.
“The Moyne Shire Youth Council is also involved in plans to extend the skate park.”
The masterplan also raises the possibility of installing cabins in the caravan park which is located in the Tea Tree Lake precinct.
The caravan park is shire-owned and operated by contractors.
