SPORT
The local football landscape was also very different in 1982. Some of the teams playing then that are no longer or play under a different guise include Grassmere, Tower Hill, Yambuk and Warrnambool Institute.
MUSIC
THE music section of the City of Warrnambool Eisteddfod is happening next week. Not much has changed, as this photo of Sharon McDonald (right) proves. Miss McDonald, a year seven student at Warrnambool High School, was in full voice as part of her school’s choir at the 1982 eisteddfod. The top three songs on the singles charts were Mickey (Toni Basil), Ebony and Ivory (Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder) and I Love Rock and Roll (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts). Venues promoting live music included The Lady Bay, the Tatt’s Hotel and the Criterion Hotel.
TELEVISION
A quick glance at the television lift-out in The Standard 35 years ago shows that Warrnambool and district residents only had two channels to chose from: ABC and BTV 6. Prime time shows included The Greatest American Hero, Happy Days, Flipper, Magnum P.I and Sale of the Century.
FILMS
The big movie screening at the Capital Cinema was The Man From Snowy River while over at the drive-in it was An American Werewolf in London.
