The South West Cricket Association stalwart will take the reins from Nirranda legend Jason Mungean, who is set to remain at the Knights in a playing capacity.
Castle led Pomborneit on three separate occasions, first captaining the Bulls in 1998.
He returned to the helm for a single season in 2004, before once again taking it from 2009 until 2011.
Nirranda president Michael Walsh said the club last season identified fresh leadership as vital.
“Jason (Mungean) and Corey (Couch) have been around the club for a long time, so they felt like they wanted to step back a bit,” he said.
“We also identified that we needed a top-order batsman, and Steven certainly fits that.
“We’re absolutely rapt, we think he will really complement our young talent.”
Nirranda finished at the bottom of division one last season but was competitive, blooding several young players.
